An amazing vehicle from Hyundai ... truly!

I recently purchased the Limited trim of this model and have been blown away by the features and level of quality from Hyundai. At the time of writing, it has been very difficult to find a Santa Fe PHEV limited so I didn't care about color or installed options. Well, I finally got a call from a dealer that they had a Limited in Lagoon Blue with a black interior with a fair level of installed options so I bought it sight unseen. After putting down a $500 deposit, I drove the next day 3 1/2 hours to the dealer to finalize the purchase. When I pulled into the parking lot of the dealership, I noticed there where two Santa Fe looking vehicles that were plugged in and one had a bluish grey tint which looked awesome and gratefully happened to be mine as it turned out. This is a well designed vehicles and some of my favorite features so far: lane centering assistance (works great with steering wheel torque modulating based vehicle position and is far superior to the 2020 Rav4 we own), adaptive cruise control, panoramic moonroof, surround sound stereo (stumbled on the setting but amazing sound), physical operator control panel (user preference but IMO touch screen settings should be reserved for one time settings), interior comfort, cargo room, 6 speed dual clutch transmission, and mechanical all-wheel drive system. Where I live there tends to be a lot of snow so I suspect I'm going to appreciate Hyundai's choices for their power train on this vehicle. There are a few things I think Hyundai could have done better and this is coming from a former Chevy Volt owner so I'm a bit biased of what PHEV should have as features: gas engine needs to run for cabin heating and cooling (that really limits a person's ability to save on gas during a couple seasons during the year), no EV hold to preserve electric charge, no regen braking paddle common on EV vehicles, congested steering wheel controls. Overall, this is an outstanding vehicle, it's super comfortable, very roomy and performs well. - 5.0

2022 SANTA FE Plug in Limited - Promises Delivered

Was able to hunt down a Limited trim from a dealer in Maryland as they are only available in select states. Car delivers on all promises, but there are some things you will probably want to know before you buy it. First, to accommodate the bigger battery, the fuel tank is much smaller than any other version of the Santa Fe, including the regular hybrid - it's only 12.4 gallons. You will hardly notice in the city when you are running on electric, but on road trips it only goes about 250-300 miles on a tank of gas. Highway fuel economy is very fickle and is very speed dependent. It gets the advertised 31 mpg at about 65mph, but take off 2 mpg for every 5 mph over it. Driving it home from the dealer I averaged about 27.5mpg at about 75-77 mph for most of the drive. Second, on cold morning the gas engine will run to heat up the car, although the electric motor will power your driving. It runs for about the first five minutes, then it will switch over to all EV mode. This is important to know if you store the car in a garage - it will still emit CO2 when warming up so open your garage door. EV range is spot on at 30 miles, but keep in mind that only the first 80-85% of the battery life is available for pure EV driving, after it gets to about 15-20% it will auto switch over to regular HEV mode and use the remaining battery to drive as a traditional hybrid. It will charge fully overnight on the level 1 120 volt charger that it ships with, but that takes about 10 hrs from dead. On the US version, the max charging is 3.7 kWh which is 240 volts at 16amps - Hyundai put the cheapest on board charger they could. It will not take any more power than that, so don't pull up to 7.4 kWh charger and expect anything more. At best, on a level 2 charger it will charger in about 4 hours from dead. It will only take AC charging on the J1772 plug - there is no DC charging available (which is common issue on a PHEV). So don't expect it work with a Tesla or a Level 3 charger.
